The Opportunity

Are you someone that thinks leadership, not management is the way to run a team? If the answer is yes, this may be the role for you!

This is an exciting opportunity to join Department of Economics that is dedicated to vibrant research mindset. The overall goal of the department is to prepare students with a range of career options that are readily adapted to the issues of the day.

As the Department Manager for the Department of Economics you will be an integral part of our Operational Services group, which specialises in faculty management, operational services and providing office support. Based at the Clayton campus, this role will also operate and support staff on the Caulfield and Peninsula campuses.

From leading a small team to providing exceptional client service, this role is responsible for managing and overseeing administrative functions, planning and negotiating services to meet department needs. As the successful candidate, you will look after the strategic and business operational planning for resource management, day-to-day operations, maintenance of physical infrastructure and space utilisation.

This position also plays a key role in budget monitoring and maintaining strong relationships across the department and the Business School. We are looking for experienced leaders who would preferably have an understanding and knowledge of the education sector, including national education and research priorities and strategies.

  • a strong desire to succeed in a complex matrix structure and collaborative culture
  • the ability to develop and lead a team focused on service excellence and continuous improvement
  • high level interpersonal and communication skills.

We are searching for strong leaders who show a passion for customer service and can lead by example to motivate and inspire their team. If this sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
