An exciting opportunity exists for an exceptional and talented candidate who is interested in undertaking a PhD project in the field of women’s sexual and reproductive health at the NHMRC-funded SPHERE Centre of Research Excellence. Located within the Department of General Practice, SPHERE is focused on addressing evidence-practice gaps in the delivery of preconception care, contraception and medical abortion in primary care and increasing women’s access to these services.

The PhD project attached to this scholarship will involve piloting a decision aid in general practices and pharmacies that could potentially help Australian women widen their contraceptive choice. This will involve initially conducting a systematic review to identify decision aids that have been developed to assist women in making a decision about contraceptive methods and then identifying the most effective and the most suitable for use in the Australian context. A pilot study will then be conducted within general practices and pharmacies to determine the decision aid’s effectiveness and feasibility for national implementation.
