WCHN Aboriginal staff are invited to express interest in undertaking the role of Aboriginal Workforce Project Officer (ASO4) and must be available for the designated periods 21/7/2025 to 4/10/2025 (with a possibility for extension).

The Aboriginal Workforce Project Officer reports to the Aboriginal Workforce Strategist for the oversight of timely, effective and culturally safe practices in recruitment processes, career development and leadership opportunities, policy review, cultural intelligence and improving the Aboriginal recruitment experience, in line with current Aboriginal Workforce Strategy, Discovering Potential, Growing Together 2026.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with both internal and external key stakeholders, to deliver the Network’s commitment to develop an Aboriginal workforce representation of at least 4% with a focus on improving representation in areas across the organisation where consumer need is at its greatest. The role is responsible for the coordination, administrative management and support of Key Activities associated with the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy Action Plan 2026, and the coordination of Aboriginal Trainees within the Network.

Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to liaise effectively across a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and/or part of a team to prioritise and deliver on deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and judgement in supporting objectives to fulfil administrative responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully within a team.
  • Proven experience in document quality control, producing high quality and accurate reports, and analysing health activity data.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and tracking the progress of multiple complex tasks, drafting quality documents and the manipulation and basic analysis of data information.
  • Demonstrated experience in using a range of computer-based systems e.g. MS Office software, in particular Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to promoting and creating a safe and inclusive work environment.
  • Have a sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture, contemporary issues facing Aboriginal peoples, local community resources and family networks.
  • Provide cultural advice to ensure culturally safe and sensitive systems, services and programs.
  • Facilitate linkages with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander service providers, agencies, and key community leaders.
