Role Snapshot/Role Summary

In the role of Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of our enterprise databases. You will be involved in the planning and development of our databases, as well as proactive maintenance and troubleshooting of any issues on behalf of the users.

You will join a team a team of passionate technologists who are accountable for Business Intelligence and Data solutions across wagering, lotteries and keno, with a specific focus on data management, governance, data warehouse architecture, operations and support.

The role is a once-in-a-career opportunity as we continue on the complex integration journey following the Tabcorp-Tatts Group merger. You will work across multiple database technologies including MS SQL, Teradata, Oracle, Redshift and RDS, both on premise and cloud. As we transition further to cloud and simplify our solutions you will be involved with an Oracle-Teradata migration and the setup of the first Teradata Intellicloud in Australia.

The role will focus on

  • Ensuring an optimal and highly available database platform.
  • Monitoring performance and managing parameters in order to provide fast responses to business users and stakeholders.
  • Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database.
  • Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security.
  • Ensuring the delivery of quality product by ensuring code is peer reviewed, unit tested, and other techniques.
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of standards, procedures, and methodologies to maximise the effectiveness of the product delivery lifecycle.
  • Compiling, maintaining and reviewing artefacts generated out of the SDLC.
  • Providing system support by investigating, liaising and advising on problems reported by business support teams, system test, and third party providers.
  • Mentoring and coaching other developers across the department.
  • Influencing and operating as a genuine trusted advisor throughout technology (and the broader Group).
  • Building strong business relationships based on trust and delivery.

Our Ideal Person

To be successful in this role you will have accredited tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, 3+ years’ experience working with relevant database technologies (MS SQL, Redshift, RDS and Teradata) including all aspects of product lifecycle & process development, delivery and support. 

You will have demonstrable experience in building and developing strong relationships across the business and possess expert knowledge of process development and implementation. The ability to collaborate within a team driving knowledge and continuous delivery practices will ensure your success in this position.

Key Requirements:

  • Database fundamentals- MS SQL, Redshift and RDS
  • Teradata experience is a nice to have or willingness to learn and become a dedicated Teradata DBA
