Role Summary

We are looking for a talented Senior Corporate Lawyer with 5+ years PQE to join the Wagering and Media division of our high-performing Legal & Regulatory team. The role will appeal to a mid-level in-house lawyer looking to move to a dynamic and exciting blue-chip corporate and/or a private practice lawyer looking to make a move in-house.

This role is based in Melbourne and reports to the Deputy General Counsel – Wagering & Media. The role will work closely with the DGC and other members of the Group General Counsel team to support Tabcorp's Wagering and Media businesses by providing legal advice on a broad range of matters including corporate and commercial law, marketing, government, regulatory and licensing issues, racing industry and other stakeholder relations, mergers and acquisitions and various Wagering and Media projects.

The successful applicant will be joining at a very exciting time, with the organisation having completed a transformational merger at the end of 2017.

How you will contribute

This role involves:

  • operating as a senior legal advisor providing high quality advice on complex and strategic matters within the Wagering and Media portfolio;
  • partnering with key business stakeholders in the Wagering and Media businesses to support strategies that enable achievement of commercial objectives while appropriately managing legal risk;  
  • effective and timely delivery of legal services demonstrating superior communication skills;
  • proactively managing any formal notices or other claims received by the Wagering and Media businesses and seek early resolution to avoid any material breach, disputes or litigation;
  • drafting and negotiating general commercial contracts, media rights contracts and integrity and product fee agreements with the racing and sporting bodies;
  • marketing approvals across all mediums and related advice;
  • providing legal assistance on regulatory and compliance matters including policy implementation and strategic decision making with the Group General Counsel and Wagering and Media businesses on risk ownership and mitigation; and
  • modelling leadership traits and behaviours to provide a supportive, engaging and productive team environment.

Our Ideal Person

We are looking for a talented and commercially-minded lawyer who is admitted as a solicitor in Australia with a minimum of five years PQE obtained in a top-tier or large mid-tier firm or a high performing in-house team.

Critical to this role will be your strong technical legal skills and training, business acumen and ability to work well in a team environment (you will be joining a team of seven experienced Wagering and Media lawyers) as well as autonomously. You will need the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced and dynamic corporate environment. Experience in being able to provide commercially focused legal support in a highly regulated environment would also be viewed favourably.

This role will work closely with the business and will require excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to influence others by developing strong working relationships and delivering excellent commercial solutions to complex legal issues.
