Permanent Opportunity – based in Melbourne, Sydney or Port Kembla
Strategic role accountable for continuous improvement of critical locomotive maintenance component
Improve fleet safety, performance, reliability and availability nationally
Reporting to the Head of Assets Freight, the Manager Locomotive Maintenance is a strategic role focused on driving locomotive reliability and availability improvements consistently across all locomotive fleets in our Freight business unit nationally. With a team of 5 Locomotive Principals reporting into this position, the Manager Locomotive Maintenance has overall responsibility for engineering and operational decisions to support the day to day operation of the fleet by managing through direct reports. The Manager Locomotive Maintenance oversees all maintenance contracts and manages the relationship with maintenance partners to capitalise on bench marking opportunities within our supplier group to continuously improve performance and to meet business requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Negotiating an annual locomotive service delivery plan with the maintenance partners that meets the commercial and operational requirements set out in the PN business plan such as fleet requirements and ensuring that agreed KPIs and budgets are met
Preparing and managing financial budgets according to the maintenance plan
Working with the business and maintenance partners to develop and implement strategies and quality processes to improve safety, productivity and performance, especially regarding reliability and availability of fleet.
Managing Occupational Health and Safety within locomotive maintenance and actively participate with asset management in the development and implementation of hazard elimination or minimization strategies
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated asset management, ideally locomotive experience, in a similar role and possess the following skills and experience:
Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or extensive trade background in Locomotive maintenance
Demonstrated people leadership skills and experience and a strong customer focused approach
Knowledge of the American Association Railroads (AAR) & Railway of Australia Standards (ROA), the Rail Industry Safety & Standards Board (RISSB) and membership with MIEAust Institute of Engineers Australia and CPEng (Chartered Status) will be highly regarded.
