The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore's strategic maritime interests.

MPA is the driving force behind Singapore's port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative.

MPA partners the industry and other agencies to enhance safety, security and environmental protection in our port waters, facilitate port operations and growth, expand the cluster of maritime ancillary services, and promote maritime R&D and manpower development.

You will be part of the Marine, Environment and Safety Department and required to conduct gas-free and dangerous goods (DG) inspections on-board vessels/container vessels at various cargo terminals to certify that the vessels are free from flammable vapours/DG prior entry to shipyards. You would also need to ensure compliance and advise the shipping community on DG matters. In addition, you would need to provide technical advice in the event of an emergency/incident involving chemicals/oils in the port.

You should possess a Degree in Science (Chemistry) or equivalent. Candidates with good knowledge in marine operations and ship structure as well as familiar with Workplace Safety and Health practices in maritime industries or well versed with emergency response on chemical/oil spills, will have an added advantage.

You should possess strong analytical as well as interpersonal skills. You should be able to work independently and work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays.
