Responsibilities

We are looking for a dynamic, resourceful and creative individual who will be involved in leading a newly-established unit within MinLaw’s International Legal Division (ILD).  The unit will take charge of MinLaw’s strategic vision in respect of our Government-to-Government engagements.

The work of MinLaw’s International Legal Division (ILD) impacts Singapore’s relationship with other States and international actors, as well as Singapore’s relationship with individuals and private entities within and outside of Singapore.  The work of ILD spans the international civil, criminal and regulatory frameworks.  ILD drives policy formulation for the harmonisation of private international law as well as international criminal cooperation. ILD seeks to uphold Singapore’s global credibility by ensuring that Singapore’s domestic laws are responsive to evolving international law and norms. ILD also advances the interests of the legal, economic and social sectors through strategic legal cooperation platforms.

MinLaw’s Government-to-Government engagements are a key element of Singapore’s strategic legal cooperation with other States.  ILD, through its new unit, will spearhead MinLaw’s Government-to-Government engagement.  Your role will include strategising and developing practical, innovative and sustainable means to broaden and deepen our bilateral engagements and legal cooperation efforts.  There will be a need to work closely and coordinate within MinLaw as well as with other government agencies, to harness available opportunities and create new opportunities, in line with whole-of-Government and MinLaw interests.  You will also establish processes to institutionalise MinLaw’s knowledge management for our Government-to-Government engagements, including the preparation and updating of bilateral briefs.

Requirements

Candidates must possess relevant experience, preferably of at least 4 years. Candidates should have a good understanding of socio-political sensitivities. Broad knowledge of the legal industry will be useful.

You should be a highly motivated individual, who works well in a team.  You should have a strong sense of initiative, and thrive on working in a fast-paced environment.  You must have strong analytical skills as well as good oral and written communication skills.  You must have a strong ability to engage people at all levels, and good planning and organisation skills.
