As an R&D Project Scientist, you will be part of a team working to identify novel secondary metabolites for consumer care applications. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Microbial genome mapping, transcriptome profiling, proteomics and metabolomics analysis;
  • Novel secondary metabolite Biosynthesis Gene Clusters (BGCs) identification;
  • Refactoring identified BGCs in yeast;
  • Pathway optimization for enhanced secondary metabolite production;
  • Microbial fermentation process development and parameter optimization in bioreactors;
  • Bioactivity and cellular activity assay of the novel secondary metabolites;
  • Analysis of experimental results and preparation of technical reports;
  • Preparation of manuscript for journal publication and patent application;
  • Preparation of research proposals for grant application and industrial collaboration;
  • Procurement of laboratory equipment, materials and accessories, chemicals and reagents;
  • Supervision of junior research staff and final year project students; and
  • Support research team and assist in laboratory management.



  • At least 2 years of relevant research experience in Synthetic Biology, Microbial Metabolic Engineering, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in microbial metabolic/genetic engineering and fermentation
  • Able to design and undertake research projects with minimal supervision
  • Extensive hands-on experience in bioinformatics, microbial genome mapping, microbial secondary metabolite Biosynthesis Gene Cluster (GBC) identification and refactoring, or synthetic biology would be an advantage
