Job no.: 532240
Work type: Permanent/Contract
Location: Singapore
Categories: Policy Formulation

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing and reviewing policies to ensure that all workers in Singapore are well-protected while balancing business needs, and for driving the implementation and review of these policies, to make every workplace a good workplace.

This includes ensuring that our employment legislation - covering basic conditions of work under the Employment Act and employment dispute resolution under the Employment Claims Act - remain relevant and up to date. This will also involve monitoring trends in work arrangements, making sense of their impact and developing solutions to shape norms upstream.

In addition, you will be responsible for developing ops/policy tools for raising employment standards beyond those mandated by legislation. Traditionally, we have relied on legislative requirements and voluntary adoption of tripartite guidelines to set employment standards. Over the years, workplaces have become more complex with diverse worker needs which are not well-addressed by one-size-fits-all legislation, while workers are getting more vocal about pushing for employer commitments. The team will develop the policy solutions and ops concepts to address such challenges.

You will also engage stakeholders - in particular our tripartite partners i.e. National Trades Union Congress and Singapore National Employers Federation - to ensure our solutions taken into account their perspectives and interests, and address their concerns.

Job Requirements

  • Good analytical and organisational skills
  • Ability to write and articulate views clearly and effectively
  • Ability to build networks and engage stakeholders internally and externally, and at different levels, to understand their perspectives and concerns
  • Keen interest in employment issues
