Established in 2001, the Health Promotion Board’s (HPB) vision is to build a nation of healthy people.

We aim to empower residents in Singapore to attain optimal health, increase the quality and years of healthy life, and prevent illnesses, disability and premature death.

To achieve this, HPB drives national health promotion and disease prevention programmes, spearheads health education initiatives and creates a supportive environment in Singapore where healthy lifestyle options are available and accessible for healthy living every day.

The Youth Preventive Services Division (YPSD) has six departments namely, School Health Service (SHS), Student Health Centre (SHC), School Dental Service, School Dental Centre, Nursing and Clinical Standards and Planning. The mission of YPSD is to promote good health and reduce illness among the school children. The services provided by the division include health screening and immunisation for the children and youth in Singapore.   

SHS provides the health screening and immunisation services in schools and clinics to about half a million school children in 400 educational institutions in Singapore. Mobile health teams of doctors and nurses provide health screening (including vision screening) and immunisation services during the school terms. School children who are identified to have health problems during health screening in the schools will be referred to the SHC for further evaluation and management.



Responsibilities

  • Conceptualise, strategize and develop effective age-appropriate screening programmes in the schools, in consultation with Deputy Director of SHS, which includes:

    1. medical screening

    2. vision screening

    3. scoliosis screening

    4. screening for hearing loss    

  • Conceptualise, strategize and develop effective immunisation programmes in the school annually and monitor the immunisation coverage of 2 year olds to ensure high coverage, in consultation with Deputy Director of SHS      

  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure success of health screening and immunisation programmes    

  • Conceptualise and plan staff training, knowledge acquisition and skills improvement

  • Review health screening and immunisation programmes

Requirements

  • A recognised MBBS qualification registered with the Singapore Medical Board
  • 10 to 15 years of clinical experience in paediatric medicine, school health services, polyclinics or general practice that involves care for paediatric cases    

  • Keen and passionate to pursue a career path in preventive medicine services for the youths

  • Ability to manage and lead a team of staff from diversified background

  • Master degree in Public Health will be an advantage
