The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health.

The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.


Officer will be expected to:

  • Lead and manage a team responsible to design and implement data science related projects
  • Develop and implement the short-term and long-term team work plan in alignment to the agency’s mission and strategic interest.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the specialist team as well as plan, develop and maintain the scientific competency of team
  • Apply data science techniques (e.g. regression, time series, machine learning, forecasting) to draw insights from large datasets
  • Apply appropriate visualisation dashboards e.g. Tableau to communicate the insights effectively
  • Support in developing a data strategy covering the collection, storage, management, sharing and application of data
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams responsible for the national food safety monitoring programme


  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience in the field of applied statistics, mathematics and modelling or equivalent fields
  • Postgraduate degree (minimum MSc or preferably PhD) in applied statistics, mathematics and modelling or equivalent fields
  • Proficiency in statistical software e.g. SPSS, R or SAS, multivariate statistical analysis will be essential
  • Basic understanding of food microbiology / food chemistry / food science will be essential
  • Staff management and development experience will be essential
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills and be able to learn and apply new software and techniques quickly
  • Experience in processing large datasets is preferred
  • Prior experience with peer-review publications in scientific journals is preferred
