The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health.

The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.

Purpose of Job

Singapore aims to produce 30% of its nutritional needs locally by 2030 (“30 by 30” goal). To achieve the goal, SFA is leveraging on R&D to enable food production in Singapore to be highly productive, sustainable and climate resilient given Singapore’s resource constraints. 

Successful candidate will lead the effort to drive and support aquaculture feed and nutrition research at Marine Aquaculture Centre (MAC). He or she understands the latest advances in nutrition and feed technology and will provide recommendations on relevant technologies that could be adopted or R&D necessary to improve the productivity and sustainability of local fish farms. He or she will also oversee the operation of a pilot feedmill at MAC to produce experimental diets and collaborate with industry and academic researchers on R&D projects.


  • Study, survey and evaluate technologies that are of relevance and make recommendations to management and industry on how these technologies could be developed and adopted
  • Engage and collaborate with industry stakeholders and academic researchers to identify challenges and gaps in aquaculture nutrition
  • Plan, design and conduct aquaculture nutrition programmes and projects
  • Formulate experimental diets with focus on tropical food fishes and shrimps and with a view on sustainability e.g. by-product valorisation
  • Oversee the operation of pilot feedmill to produce experimental diets for aquaculture nutrition research
  • Organise training workshops for staff and industry partners on aquaculture nutrition and feed processing technology
  • Perform other related duties as required for the smooth operation of the MAC



  • Knowledge or relevant work experience in Aquaculture, Animal nutrition or related disciplines
  • Preferably at least 3-5 years relevant work experience, in aquafeed milling and feed formulation
  • Experience in planning and conducting feeding and digestibility trials
  • Good knowledge on feed ingredients and additives
  • Good knowledge in biostatistical and feed formulation tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prepared to work on weekends and after office hours when necessary
