The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health.

The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.

Purpose of Job

Singapore aims to produce 30% of its nutritional needs locally by 2030 (“30 by 30” goal). To achieve the goal, SFA is leveraging on R&D to enable food production in Singapore to be highly productive, sustainable and climate resilient given Singapore’s resource constraints. 

Successful candidate will plan, coordinate and participate in R&D programmes with industry stakeholders and academia so as to drive aquaculture research at the Marine Aquaculture Centre (MAC). He or she possess wide knowledge in various aquaculture disciplines such genetics, nutrition and fish health and will identify cross-cutting research areas that can improve the productivity and sustainability of aquaculture and local fish farms.



  • Study, survey and evaluate technologies that are of relevance and make recommendations to management and industry on how these technologies could be developed and adopted
  • Engage and collaborate with industry stakeholders and academic researchers, local and international, to identify challenges and opportunities in aquaculture technology and recommend suitable R&D programmes/projects to address them
  • Plan and design aquaculture R&D programmes and projects
  • Contribute actively to publications and disseminate research findings
  • Ensure that requirements identified within internal processes for research, such as IP management and IACUC, are met
  • Plan and manage the use of MAC’s shared aquaculture research facility, including engagement with potential collaborators and companies
  • Coach and support colleagues in the planning and conduct of research projects
  • Perform other related duties as required for the smooth operation of the MAC



  • Knowledge or relevant work experience in related aquaculture disciplines
  • Preferably at least 3-5 years relevant aquaculture research experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prepared to work on weekends and after office hours when necessary
