Role Purpose

The Data Scientist Senior Manager will manage a team working with a variety of extensive datasets and challenging NewDay’s data science approaches to drive greater value through both improved customer outcome and commercial value.

The successful applicant will help drive NewDay’s Data Science agenda in the Credit Risk department, providing thought leadership on how best to extract value from existing data as well as how to setup new leading edge data sources and ML methodologies and then delivering on the planned approach.   

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for managing a data science team in credit risk, and driving leadership in the data science area challenging NewDays approach to data analytics and modelling techniques
  • Responsible for driving NewDays alternate predictive model approach in the Credit Risk department
  • Using Maths, statistics and machine learning techniques to identify new trends and relationships in data
  • Build knowledge of all relevant data resources within NewDay, and credit data use cases
  • Prototype new data sources internally and external to NewDay
  • Researching, testing and recommending new products and methodologies in the Data Science stack as these fast moving technologies develop,
  • Responsible for delivering Data products as planned
  • Help Newday become a beacon in the use of Data Science in the Industry
  • Lead recruitment activities
  • Mentor, manage and motivate  a highly skilled team
  • Present approach and output to Senior Management, adapting the level of detail as appropriate
  • Deliver and maintain of enhanced model monitoring and Data Science driven insight generation allowing the business to greater understanding of the credit risk indicators and better decisioning
  • Supporting the first and second line governance function in developing a robust process for model and strategy review and sign off.

Skills and Experience

ESSENTIAL         

  • MSc or PhD in Data Science related field
  • 5+ year experience applying Data Science in a commercial environment
  • At least 2 years of prior people management and/or coaching experience
  • Experience of agile approach to Data Science product development
  • Strong record of implementation of Data Science products in a live environment
  • Solid experience of stakeholder management 
  • Ability to present analysis output to all levels of the business
  • Enthusiastic self-learner keeping up with latest techniques, technology and market trends
  • Proficiency in machine learning techniques
  • Proficiency with open source analytic coding such as Python or R
  • Experience of developing models in a regulated environment, ideally within the credit risk area of financial services
  • Proficiency in statistical techniques
  • Experience in multi-model architecture creation
  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources
  • Analytical and problem solving skills, applied to Big Data domain

DESIRABLE

  • Experience running algorithms across Hadoop, SPARK, or HDFS
  • Experience with Spark & Scala
  • Good knowledge of superset
  • Knowledge of Big Data querying tools, such as Pig, Hive, Impala, or sql
