Position Responsibilities

  • Support the School of Engineering (SOE) with the academic support efforts and activities for "at-risk" (academically challenged) students, primarily in the first-year/freshman cohort
  • Assist with the development and establishment of "at-risk" criteria and markers
  • Provide ongoing surveillance of SOE students’ academic progress
  • Assist in identifying at-risk (academically challenged) students
  • Build and manage a case file of at-risk students within the SOE
  • Provide academic counseling, intervention, and support to at-risk students
  • Review student cases and follow up as necessary and appropriate
  • Establish working relationships with other units throughout The Citadel
  • Refer and connect students to additional campus support resources (SI, tutoring, mental health counseling, etc…
  • Communicate, as appropriate, students’ progress and updates to other SOE faculty/staff and other support units
  • Assist with establishing metrics to track progress and success
  • Assisting with general office and administrative support
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • To qualify, you must be a current student who is enrolled in a Graduate degree seeking program. You must also be in good academic standing and taking a minimum of 6 credit hours during each employed semester
  • Enrolled in a graduate program related to counseling, psychology, sociology, education, teaching/instruction, higher education, student success, student development, or other program related to academic support, student success, and/or learning.
  • Able to work independently
  • Attention to detail and accurately capture information during student interactions
  • Willing and able to work between 10-20 hours
  • Able to lift up to 15 lbs.

Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with students (high-school/undergraduate)
  • Experience supporting research and data analytics
  • Prior experience with academic counseling/tutoring
  • Creative personality
