Head of Technical Services position at The Citadel, Charleston SC

The Daniel Library at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina seeks applications from positive, proactive, service oriented individuals interested in applying for our Head of Technical Services position. This is a full-time, twelve-month, faculty (non-tenure track) position holding the rank of Assistant Professor of Library Science. The Head of Technical Services oversees the implementation and maintenance portions of the e-resource lifecycle, including holdings management, proxy access, discovery/access, assessment, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will also effectively manage and assess trials, promote collections, manage budgets, and lead training sessions related to library resources.  The Head of Technical Services serves as a back-up administrator for the integrated library system (ILS).

The Head of Technical Services processes or supervises all interlibrary loan and related services, including PASCAL Delivers, document delivery, scan and deliver services, and publisher token use. The Citadel will migrate from from Millennium to Alma, from Ebsco to Primo in 2020, and from ILLiad to Tipasa in 2021. The Head of Technical Services will lead those migrations. The Daniel Library is part of a statewide consortium known as Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL) and the Carolina Consortium, which includes North Carolina libraries. The Head of Technical Services will be our point of contact for both consortia. The successful candidate will work closely with a wide range of vendors and service providers. Minimal travel is required for this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science
  • Must have progressive academic library experience
  • Experience with resource sharing, electronic resource management, systems troubleshooting, customer service, and/or assessment
  • Strong computing, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing print and electronic resources in an academic library
  • Experience working with library consortia
  • Familiarity with the following library systems: EBSCO Discovery Service or other discovery platforms, Full Text Finder, Curriculum Builder, EZproxy, Springshare, Millennium, Alma, Primo, ILLiad, Tipasa, and OCLC Connexion
  • 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion
