UNIV - Research Assistant Professor - Psychiatry: Mental Health Disparities & Diversity (Internal Candidates Only) Charleston, SC-Downtown
The candidate in this position will be committed to conducting research within the area of biobehavioral sciences with an emphasis on minority health and health disparities. Principal responsibilities would include collaboration with colleagues across a spectrum of areas to facilitate multidisciplinary research related but not limited to the following areas: • Understanding and addressing social determinants of health to improve health outcomes among underserved populations • Developing infrastructure for integrating social determinants data with clinical and biological data to support new translational research and clinical care in chronic disease treatment and population health management. • Providing oversight and coordination within the Hollings Cancer Center’s NCI Community Oncology Research Program (HCC-NCORP) statewide effort to enhance patient care and cancer care delivery to reduce cancer burden • Providing research support for addressing lung cancer health disparities and behavioral risk factors (i.e. tobacco smoking) through a newly funded NCI P20 Translational Research Center The candidate will be based within the Hollings Cancer Center, Cancer Control Program, engaging with all HCC and Program-specific activities as relevant. This will include: a) engagement with Cancer Control program meetings, retreats, journal clubs, seminars, and visiting speakers, and b) engagement within specific sub-themes of the Cancer Control as relevant: tobacco (South Caroline Tobacco Research Group), or, more likely cancer health disparities (DREAM). S/he will also develop their own independent research by working collaboratively with colleagues to meet research goals. The candidate will work closely with senior-level mentors and leverage existing relationships to develop innovative research.

The Department of Comparative Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a part time laboratory animal veterinarian to serve as liaison to the VA program and local integrated non-profit organization. The Department of Comparative Medicine is responsible for the care and use of all lab animals at MUSC. Candidates should be board certified by ACLAM. The successful applicant will be required to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in SC and to be USDA certified for health certificates in SC. Candidates will be expected to develop collaborative and/or independent research programs and should meet the criteria for appointment at a faculty level at MUSC. Duties will include teaching research personnel in the proper use of lab animals, clinical care of a variety of species with an emphasis on rodents, IACUC participation and regulatory oversight activities. The successful candidate will join a department with other veterinarians, and a well-established AAALAC accredited program. This individual will serve as a backup clinical veterinarian for laboratory animals at MUSC to include providing postoperative care within the Surgical Research Laboratories managed by DLAR. Rotate being on call for after hour service at night, on week-ends and on holidays with the other veterinarians in Comparative Medicine.
