Job Summary/Purpose: The Bariatric Surgery Program Coordinator is a member of the Digestive Disease Service Line (DDSL) and reports to the Nurse Administrator/Manager. The purpose of this position is to plan, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate the healthcare services program for bariatric surgery, aged adolescents to older adult. The position is responsible for developing, monitoring and updating processes and related policies and procedures and to collaborate with personnel within the organization to facilitate accurate and efficient flow of patients throughout the healthcare system. He/she will assist in the development of educational and public relations materials. This position may represent the program as a public speaker and acts as a resource to patient care and processes related to the program.

Minimum Training and Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and five years nursing experience; a Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, Health administration or a relevant field preferred. Current South Carolina licensure or licensure in a compact state as a registered nurse. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina licensure or licensure in a compact state as a registered nurse. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
