Job Duties:
10Analyze results of studies in the context of establishing a better understanding of the immunological dynamics and function in PTSD, and developing therapeutic strategies to address immunological hyperactivation in PTSD.Essential
10Communicate with potential research subjects and assess their eligibility to participate in the research studies through review of medical records and, if necessary, administering assessments.Essential
10Contribute to the preparation of significant findings for publication in refereed, peer-reviewed scientific journals.Essential
10Independently perform the necessary background research needed for developing an appropriate plan of attack to understand the immunological contribution to PTSD.Essential
10Will be expected to participate actively in collaborative efforts with other scientists and clinicians. The purpose of those efforts will be to foster research through developing a rich environment and state-of-the-art techniques.Essential
40The incumbent will be responsible for independently conducting studies that meet the overall objective of defining the immunological basis for immune disorders in PTSD. This requires expert knowledge in cell phenotyping, flow cytometric analyses, cell-cell interactions, cytokine analyses as they pertain to immune activation. An understanding of this knowledge is required to account for previously unexplained immunological outcomes that could relate to PTSD.Essential
5Will contribute to local meetings assessing potential research subjects and their eligibility to participate in research involving immune contributions to PTSD.Essential
5Will participate in conferences, seminars and workshops to facilitate an exchange of information, to keep abreast of the progress and trends of research, and to aid in improving the quality of the immunology research program.Essential

Job summary:

The position requires mastery of the principles, theories, and practices of biomedical sciences as would typically be gained through a Ph.D. in biomedical studies with a background in biochemistry in order to independently carry out biomedical research projects related to molecular and cellular physiology, and biochemistry with special emphasis on the immune system.

The incumbent will be the lead person responsible for a multifunctional and multidisciplinary research program that requires expert knowledge in the mechanisms surrounding chronic inflammation. An understanding of the etiology of chronic inflammation, cytokine biology or other immunological events.

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 6: $39,960.00 - $56,947.00 - $73,935.00 (min - mid - max)

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A PhD, MD or equivalent with two years post-doctorate experience.

Preferred Experience: Previous experience in working independently in immunological and cell analyses, flow cytometric analyses, immunofluorescent staining.  Previous experience with data analyses.  The incumbent is an independent research investigator with responsibility for conducting translationally relevant immunological research focused on the interplay of chronic inflammation on microglia.
