Job Summary/Purpose:  The Certified Anesthesia Tech/Equipment Specialist reports to the Anesthesia Tech Manager. Under general supervision, the Certified Anesthesia Tech/Equipment Specialist performs technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist attending anesthesiologists, residents and nurse anesthetists in performing anesthetic procedures. This position organizes the anesthesia equipment and orients new anesthesia techs at University Hospital (UH). This position will oversee the correct usage and maintenance of all anesthesia equipment in the University Hospital anesthesia department. They would be responsible for notifying Biomedical Engineering for any repairs needed. They will be responsible for orienting the new anesthesia techs to all the equipment and machines. They will in-service the anesthesia techs on proper cleaning of laryngoscope blades, handles and fiber optic scopes.

Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of Anesthesia Tech experience required. Graduation from an approved Anesthesia Technician program preferred. Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) as a Certified Anesthesia Technician preferred. Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Compliance in maintaining BLS and any other annual competencies is mandatory.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Compliance in maintaining BLS and any other annual competencies is mandatory.
