Job Summary/Purpose: Under the supervision of the Hospital Coding Manager, the Coding Auditor will review hospital inpatient and/or outpatient coding. The Coding Auditor will evaluate and report the quality and compliance in relation to coding guidelines, documentation, policies and procedures, and government regulations. The Coding Auditor will be responsible for reviewing external audits upon receipt. This position will also code and provide education to ensure coding accuracy and consistency.  

Minimum Training and Education: A minimum of an Associate's Degree and four years relevant experience as a Coder with demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills required; may substitute an additional 4 years of experience for Associate's Degree; previous auditing/compliance experience or training/teaching experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Credentialed as a Coder by a nationally recognized accrediting body (AAPC and AHIMA). RHIA or RHIT preferred; CCS or CPC required.

(Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Infrequent) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movement. (Continuous) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. (Continuous) (Selected Positions)
