Job Summary/Purpose: This position provides clinical pharmacy support in our Malignant Hematology Clinics.  The current oncology pharmacy team includes numerous clinical pharmacists specializing in oncology as well as 7 clinical specialists (including this position).  There are currently 6 clinical specialist positions dedicated to outpatient clinics, and 1 specialist dedicated to inpatient malignant hematology and BMT care.  Hollings Cancer Center currently has numerous hematology/oncology clinics, 50 infusion chairs and an active Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic, and an Cellular Therapy Program that is up and running. 

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be involved in direct patient care activities such as chemotherapy regimen selection and modification, oral chemotherapy management, collaborative drug therapy management programs (eg, management of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting), patient education, staff education and other disease specific initiatives. This qualified individual will serve as the pharmacy liaison to the physician and nursing leaders by representing the department on multidisciplinary initiatives associated with the Hollings Cancer Center.  The clinical specialist will also serve as a preceptor for both PGY1 and PGY2 resident rotations, projects, and presentations.  In addition, the clinical specialist will have responsibilities in the South Carolina College of Pharmacy that include precepting pharmacy students, providing lectures at the college, and others.

 

Minimum Training and Education: This position requires a doctoral degree in pharmacy and completion of a pharmacy residency program or two years of equivalent clinical experience. The candidate must also be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of South Carolina and must be certified in Basic Life Support. The candidate must possess or be willing to complete and maintain all necessary requirements to be a PGY2 oncology residency preceptor.  Clinical research experience preferred.  Oncology Board Certification preferred (will support certification upon hiring).

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
