Job Summary/Purpose: The Compounding Pharmacist reports to the Children’s Hospital Pharmacy Manager. Under limited supervision, the Compounding Pharmacist provides formulation and repackaging pharmacy services. This position compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care. This role monitors compounding performed by pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure activities are in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. The Compounding Pharmacist reviews prescriptions issued to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.

Minimum Training and Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. Completion of a pharmacy residency preferred.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

(Frequent) Ability to lift /lower objects from floor level to height of 36 inches, to 50 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to lift from 36 inches overhead 50 lbs. unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to push/pull objects to 50 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with corrections. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. (Continuous) Ability to use automated mixing equipment. (Continuous) Ability to work overtime as required. (Continuous) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
