Job Duties:
15Assist with lab management via cleaning, organizing freezers, ensuring maintenance needs of liquid Nitrogen and CO2. Coordinate collaborative activities with other labs.Essential
15Monitor and maintain the laboratory and ensure full compliance with MUSC, state and federal regulations. Summarize data and maintain accessible, clear and legally acceptable records. May be required to perform work on some weekends to cover studies with long incubation periods, emergencies and to meet deadlines. Periodically discuss data and approach with the supervisor.Essential
35Conduct wet-lab studies consisting of Western blots, immunohistochemistry, biochemical assays, cell culture, histochemistry, DNA analysis, cloning, transfection, and purification.Essential
35Mouse Management: Testing of rodents in a variety of paradigms such as breeding, drug treatment, genotype analysis, and behavior.Essential


Job summary: The Department of Neuroscience Research is recruiting a Research Specialist I to assist with NIH funded projects in the Sambamurti lab and Jointly between the Sambamurti and Cowan Laboratories.


Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 4: $27,527.00 - $39,228.00 - $50,930.00 (min - mid - max)


FLSA: Hourly


Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift 25 lbs. boxes, from floor level to maximum height of 72 inches, unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to push/pull file boxes from one location to another at floor level. (Frequent) Ability to maneuver heavy equipment on bench tops, 50 lbs. or greater, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to maintain 20/20 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors, normally. (Continuous) Ability to hear and recognize various alarms emitting from work area systems. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand conversations.
