This is a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Nursing, Office of Research, located in Charleston, South Carolina. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research.

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Research, and in consultation with the Director of the PhD Program when working with PhD students, provides advanced statistical (emphasis on biostats) support through the College of Nursing Office of Research, to faculty and enrolled PhD students. Primary activities for this position include: development of advanced statistical methods and techniques; performing programming; guiding data management; data file production; performing advanced statistical modeling; providing guidance in biospecimen collection, techniques, and analysis; and in conducting analysis for research protocols, studies, and proposals. It is expected that scholarship productivity will remain productive and consistent with the College of Nursing Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure guidelines and recommendations annually.

This position will provide consultation and statistical support to College of Nursing Principal Investigators/Project Managers, with the expectation that the qualified individual is able to manage simultaneously working on multiple studies, projects, and tasks. It is expected that tools (macros) and systems for implementation of statistical procedures are developed in data management, data augmentation, and analysis using a variety of statistical PC based platforms, such as SPSS, SAS, STRAT, R, SUDAAN, MedCal, and cloud data management (StatsGraphics; StatsDirect).

Responsibilities include: a) working with faculty, particularly the research faculty, to develop, implement and evaluate grant activities related to statistics; and b) facilitate and implement innovative teaching strategies both online and during learning intensives to improve bio-statistical analysis planning, implementation and evaluation of research activities for faculty and students.

The successful candidate is expected to relocate to Charleston, South Carolina area upon hire.


Minimum Qualifications and Experiences:

• A PhD in biostatistics or related field is preferred,
• Two years relevant experience, or an equivalent education and/or work experience in an academic institution.
• Must have a demonstrated commitment to advancing scholarship of individuals and teams.
• Must have documented experience, or certifications, in a variety of statistical PC based platforms, such as SPSS, SAS, STRAT, R, SUDAAN, MedCal, and cloud data management (StatsGraphics; StatsDirect).
• Experience in graduate online education and teaching methods is preferred, but a motivated candidate without teaching experience who meets the educational requirements may be considered.
• Proven record of professional scholarship commensurate with years as a statistician (biostats)
• Evidence of mentoring of and publishing with faculty and PhD students in advanced statistical analysis and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs a variety of duties involving the application of intermediate and advanced statistical and technical skills to the design of research studies and to the collection, compilation, and analysis of statistical data in conjunction with the research mission and priorities of the College of Nursing, and in working faculty and students.
• May function independently as a member of a research/study team. Provides statistical guidance and support input in the design, execution, and analysis of scientifically conducted studies, with a particular focus on the use and application of biostatistics.
• Provides guidance and participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification, and management of statistical and biostatistical data.
• Participates in the preparation of written reports, oral presentations, grant applications, manuscripts, etc. that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the findings, and provides conclusions and recommendations. Provides other related duties requiring expert statistical (biostatistical) knowledge incidental to the work above.
