Job summary:

The PASOs Program Assistant/Community Health Worker will work with the PASOs Program Coordinator and the Tri-County PASOs team to deliver information about family planning methods, resources, and points of access to members of the Hispanic community in the Tri-County area; help community members navigate family planning resources; and work with both the FQHC partner and the local DHEC sites to address any systemic issues negatively affecting access to family planning. The PASOs Community Health Worker will also participate in organizing outreach events and will attend meetings related to the funded project.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

A high school diploma and two years relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

Preferred Training and Experience:

• One year experience working or volunteering with the Hispanic community of the Charleston area.
• Bilingual (English-Spanish)
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word-Excel-Powerpoint-Outlook
• Ability to multi-task a variety of functions
• Excellent Interpersonal skills to be able to interact with all levels of personnel in an academic and community setting
• Excellent communication skills
• Self-motivated / require little supervision

This position may require evening/weekend work hours.

Job Duties: 

  • 25% - Conduct intake interviews of program participants. Refer clients to resources in family planning as needed and in accordance with PASOs standards and protocols. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Provide support and education to participants on family planning methods, resources and points of access for reproductive health services. Provide follow up support and assistance in navigation of relevant referrals and benefits. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Plan and organize educational outreach events to provide group based education to the Latino community on family planning. Attend community meetings as a PASOs representative as needed. Facilitate communication between community partners, PASOs and other stakeholders as needed. Promote PASOs in the Tri-County area. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Provide program administrative support and training. Maintain records of all: outreach events conducted;educational classes conducted; phone calls made and received; referrals made and received; follow up documentation on participant progress; trainings attended; and meetings attended. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Meet consistently with the state PASOs Program Coordinator for Choose Well to report progress as needed. Participate in bi-annual PASOs training workshops. Participate in monthly PASOs conference calls. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
