Job Summary/Purpose: The Anesthesia Technician reports to the Anesthesia Technician Supervisor. Under limited supervision, the Anesthesia Technician assists licensed anesthesia providers in the preparation and maintenance of
patient monitoring devices and Anesthesia delivery systems. The Anesthesia Technician assists in the acquisition, preparation, assembly, and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. This role performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist attending anesthesiologists, residents and CRNAs in performing anesthetic procedures for patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics.  Must be able to work rotating on-call shifts for weekdays, weekends, holidays and for disastrous events.

Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of direct patient care experience as an EMT, Paramedic, Military Medic/Corpsman, or in a healthcare facility; or supply experience in a healthcare setting or work experience with medical equipment/supplies; or two years of college coursework in biology, physiology, anatomy or related scientific field; or a Bachelor's or Associate degree; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Anesthesia technician experience preferred. Compliance in maintaining BLS and any other annual competencies is mandatory. Failure to abide by MUHA policies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

(Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
