Job Summary/Purpose: The Communication Specialist III reports to the Communications Supervisor.  Under general supervision, the Communication Specialist III performs shift activities required to ensure an integrated messaging system and quality Call Center and Help Desk customer service program.  This role ensures a comprehensive and quality customer service program for clinical services and MUSC/MUHA’s consumers.   This role triages patient calls in order to put them in contact with the appropriate office, answers questions, resolves issues and refers to appropriate clinical team.  The Communications Specialist III works collaboratively with leaders on common integrated areas such as communication standards and security, patient safety, testing and change control.

Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two years combined technical/administrative/customer service experience. Hospital/academic medical center experience is preferred.  Bachelor's degree preferred and may be substituted for one year of the required experience.  Essential: strong interpersonal skills; client relations and relationship building, fact finding, analytical, presentation and communication (written/verbal) skills.  Professionalism is a must.  Individual will portray high energy, positive attitude, and team orientation in all interactions.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36 inches to overhead 20 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities.
