Job Summary: 

 

Job Duties: 

  • 35%% - Project Management • Manages research grants and programs for the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center’s Cancer Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, led by Dr. Ford, Principal Investigator (PI). The Program currently has many active federally funded grants, with additional pending grants. • Manages the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Office of Community Engagement’s Cancer Disparities Advisory Board o Works with the PI to identify potential Board members and invites them to serve o Manages an orientation session for new Board members o Manages twice-yearly Board meetings • Manages the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Office of Community Engagement research study submissions to the MUSC Protocol Review Committee and Institutional Review Board. • Manages a summer undergraduate cancer health equity research program held at MUSC. The program includes a cancer health equity research course, GRE test preparation, and work in laboratories/research offices with MUSC mentors, as well as cultural activities. o Advertises and markets the program with faculty at the four participating undergraduate institutions (Claflin University, South Carolina State University, the University of South Carolina, and Voorhees College) o Contacts lecturers to schedule their lectures and revises the curriculum based on their availability. o Coordinates cultural enrichment activities. o Matches mentors with students. o Coordinates activities with a distributed learning company to develop an online version of the course. - (Essential)
  • 25%% - Participates in Funding Opportunities and Proposal Development • Assists with grant development for the HCC Office of Community Outreach and Engagement to include developing timelines for grant submission, conducting literature searches to inform grant writing, summarizing the evidence in the literature, assisting with budget development and collating grant applications. • Works closely with the PI to establish research partnerships to enhance the quality of the research. • Identifies new sources of potential funding. • Maintains updated lists of current funding opportunities. • Matches funding opportunities with investigators’ research areas of interest and parallel funding opportunities. - (Essential)
  • 35%% - Managerial Responsibilities • Program coordinator I (NON CHE) will report directly to this position • Responsible for general supervisory support, annual reviews in Success Factors, and training as needed. - (Essential)
  • 5%% - Generates Reports • Prepares annual reports for the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach and Engagement training grants. The reports are submitted to the National Cancer Institute and the Department of Defense, among other institutions. - (Essential)
  • 5%% - Manages Scientific Peer-Reviewed Publications • In collaboration with the PI, develops and manages research manuscripts for submission to scientific peer-reviewed journals. • Prepares summaries of the research literature that are relevant to the topic and scope of each manuscript. - (Essential)

 

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: Additional Knowledge, Skill and Ability Preferred:
a. Experience in personnel management and leadership to guide team in meeting program goals.
b. Proficient in using Excel, SPSS, and REDCap.
c. Experience working in an academic medical institution.
d. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience are required.
e. Able to effectively present information in both written and verbal form.
f. Detail-oriented, highly organized, personable, and have good problem solving and analytical skills.
g. Able to display excellent interpersonal as well as customer service skills.
h. Ability to multi-task while meeting program deadlines.

 

A bachelor's degree and three years relevant program experience.
