Job Summary:

Yoon laboratory in Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medical University of South Carolina recruits a postdoctoral fellow to participate in a NIH-funded research project. A qualified candidate is expected to conduct biochemical and molecular biology experiments related to research projects of alcoholic liver disease and gene expression regulation. A fellow is also expected to 1) generate data & findings towards grant renewal, 2) to read & acquire a satisfactory depth of understanding relevant to assigned projects and 3) to prepare manuscripts for publications & present findings at lab meetings. 

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 0: Commensurate with experience.

Job Duties: 

  • 35% - Performs mammalian tissue culture, DNA/RNA/Protein analysis. Grows, maintains, expands and treats mammalian cell lines. Extracts DNA/RNA/Protein from mammalian cells. Analyzes DNA/RNA/Protein by PCP, Northern Blot and Western Blot. - (Essential)
  • 35% - Prepares laboratory records and maintain laboratory supplies. Prepares daily records of experimental procedures and results. Orders and places laboratory supplies. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Develops, evaluates and implements new or modified laboratory procedures. Improves laboratory methods of biochemical, molecular and cellular analysis of mammalian cells. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Upon request, preforms other tasks requested by faculty to maintain a smooth operation of laboratory. Preforms co-laboratory works with inside and outside colleges. - (Essential)

(Infrequent) Ability to push/pull objects to 15 #, unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to maintain 20/20 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Frequent) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. (Continuous) Must be ambidextrous.
