The CVICU is a 21 bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit specializing heart failure, VAD and heart transplant work ups, LVAD, heartware, heart transplantation, double lung transplantation, cardiac surgeries to include coronary bypass, valve replacements and repairs, aortic dissection repairs, thoracic surgeries to include esophagectomies and pneumonectomies. We also have a lot of devices i.e. balloon pumps, centrimags/ECMO, as well as all heart ware, HMII and HMIII. Because we are specialized and high paced unit we get surgical and medical patients so orientation is pretty extensive. We also have the capabilities of reopening a chest at the bedside, placing chest tubes, thoracentesis/paracentesis and other procedures that in other places may require going to the Operating Room, or procedural suite. There are always opportunities to develop and grow within the unit. There's Shared Governance, RSL/CSL, preceptor, RN III.
