The PASOs Program Assistant/Community Health Worker will facilitate and promote Reach Out and Read and PASOs programs and philosophies and serve as a community resource navigator for the Latino families in the MUSC University Pediatric clinic-Northwoods. The Program Assistant will instruct families on importance of reading, provide education on how to engage child in reading and promote community resources that work to develop literacy. In addition the PASOs Program Assistant will be responsible for developing a literacy rich waiting area and will collaborate with professional partners such as social workers and physicians when questions/concerns/needs are identified, advocating for families when needed.

The Unit Secretary reports to the Nurse Manager. Under indirect supervision, the Unit Secretary handles all incoming and outgoing communications and is responsible for accurately performing all clerical duties for the clinical unit. This position processes physicians’ orders, maintains unit charts, records, supplies and equipment. This role is the direct line of communication between the patient care unit and support services. The Unit Secretary also assists in orienting and training new personnel.

The South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (SC AHEC) began in 1972 as one of the 11 originally funded projects of the federal AHEC program. Its mission is to achieve excellence in healthcare through recruitment, retention and education of healthcare professionals. The vision is to be a leader in building a collaborative educational system designed to optimize the health of South Carolinians. SC AHEC functions as a statewide cooperative effort of the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina, South Carolina community teaching hospitals, and four regional AHEC Centers, working closely with the state's institutions of higher education and other partners to educate, recruit, and retain healthcare providers. The South Carolina AHEC system serves practicing healthcare professionals, health professions students, K-12 & undergraduate students, and communities across the state. This position coordinates and provides support for the day-to-day operation of a variety of educational programs for health professions students and professionals, with a focus on both live events via webinar and the distribution of online, enduring education. Working collaboratively this position will assist with planning, administration and evaluation of SC AHEC educational programs to increase and enhance educational learning. This position will provide support to internal and external stakeholders, facilitate educational program logistics, utilize electronic communications (email, social media, constant contact) and academic technology (learning management systems, videoconferencing systems, web cameras, video editing software), prepare reports and program documentation, and assist with communication and marketing efforts for educational programs.

This is a journeyman level position in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities during peak and non-peak hours in the entire Medical University of South Carolina, Medical Centers. Work involves the use of power and hand tools in maintaining specific zone assignments which covers a variety of corrective maintenance and repairs ranging from minor to extensive. All work is performed in accordance with instructions and established trade practices. Occasional monitoring or supervision may be necessary when new assignments are given. All work assignments will originate from the Hospital Help Desk, FSC, Maintenance Manager or Supervisor and subject to supervision and inspection by same or assigned subordinate. RNs are trained to both scrub and circulate surgical procedures.
