The Medical University of South Carolina, a 700-bed academic quaternary care medical center located in Charleston, SC, is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for the Hematology/Oncology Service Line. Hollings Cancer Center currently has 50 infusion chairs and an active Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic. The current oncology team includes numerous clinical pharmacists specializing in oncology as well as 7 clinical specialists across various hematology/oncology specialties (including this position). There are currently 6 clinical specialists dedicated to outpatient clinics and 1 specialist dedicated to inpatient malignant hematology and BMT care. Hollings Cancer Center currently has numerous hematology/oncology clinics, 50 infusion chairs and an active Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic.

Facilitates the budget process for all new trials conducted through the Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) Clinical Trials Office (CTO). Conducts monthly operational review meetings with MUSC ancillary services to ensure all costs associated with the trials are incorporated into the study budgets. Identifies any operational issues that would preclude HCC from participating in a trial and ensures all issues are resolved prior to activation of a study. Reviews complex research protocols, extracting all pertinent information that translates to budget items.

In the Hollings Cancer Center, technicians are responsible for drug preparation, handling, and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous medications.

The HCC Infusion Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacist provides distributive and clinical pharmacy services to the Ambulatory Clinics and Infusion Center located at the Hollings Cancer Center. The Hollings Infusion Pharmacy provides services primarily to hematology/oncology patients, but also other medical specialties such as neurology, transplant, pulmonary, endocrine, rheumatology, and others. The clinical pharmacist would address the needs of nursing and physician personnel regarding drug disposition and usage. The clinical pharmacist counsels patients and health care professionals by providing general and patient specific drug information, ensures timely and medically appropriate dispensing of medication to patients for assigned units, and may be responsible for the compounding of various intravenous medication doses.

The Patient Access Services Representative assists in collecting copayments and deductibles, and solves basic billing inquiries.

In order to achieve optimal patient satisfaction, this position ensures patient comfort and facilitates hotel accommodations, access to Chaplin and community social services for patients, family members and visitors. The Concierge also functions as the liaison between the patients, family members, visitors, guests and the clinical team members within the department.
