The Medical University of South Carolina, a 700-bed academic quaternary care medical center located in Charleston, SC, is seeking a Hematology/Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. The Hollings Cancer Center is an NCI designated cancer center and has been ranked in the top 25 U.S. News and World Reports for Cancer Treatment. This position provides clinical pharmacy support to our BMT/Cellular Therapy patients. Primary practice site will be downtown clinics, but cross-coverage of BMT/Cellular Therapy patients who are admitted will also be included. The current oncology pharmacy team includes numerous clinical pharmacists specializing in oncology as well as 10 clinical specialists (including this position). There are currently 9 clinical specialist positions dedicated to outpatient clinics, and 1 specialist dedicated to inpatient malignant hematology and BMT care. Hollings Cancer Center currently has numerous hematology/oncology clinics, 50 infusion chairs and an active Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic, and an Cellular Therapy Program that is up and running. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be involved in direct patient care activities such as chemotherapy regimen selection and modification, oral chemotherapy management, collaborative drug therapy management programs (eg, management of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting), patient education, staff education and other disease specific initiatives. This qualified individual will serve as the pharmacy liaison to the physician and nursing leaders by representing the department on multidisciplinary initiatives associated with the Hollings Cancer Center. The clinical specialist will also serve as a preceptor for both PGY1 and PGY2 resident rotations, projects, and presentations. In addition, the clinical specialist will have responsibilities in the South Carolina College of Pharmacy that include precepting pharmacy students, providing lectures at the college, and others.
