Position Summary

Manages and coordinates the catering operations for Kellogg Center Catering at the Stadium Tower and other MSU campus locations; manages and oversees the food service and set-up activities for catering events in order to ensure high quality service to all guests; prepares bills for catered events; plans, develops, and oversees implementation of training programs for catering staff; instructs and assists all catering staff in meal service, alcohol and non-alcoholic beverage services, and proper work methods and procedures; manages catering activities with the Catering Kitchen to ensure proper timing and smooth catering events; provides analysis in order to forecast and make recommendations for departmental strategic planning; assists with special projects; interviews, hires, schedules, trains, and evaluates the performance of all part-time team members; manages food & beverage supplies, equipment, and labor costs.  

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Hospitality Business, General Business, or a related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in banquet/catering service to include proper meal service techniques and protocol; special events and banquet services; food sanitation and safety procedures; alcoholic beverage service including application of State of Michigan sale and service regulations; food/beverage preparation and presentation; cost control and supervision; menu planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
