Human Relations Manager
This position serves as a Human Relations Manager for the College of Education and has oversight for human resources and alumni relations. Primary job duties and responsibilities include: Overseeing and administering human resource processes, policies, and procedures for a large and complex academic unit; managing and leading human resource activities including hiring, recruitment and selection of support and academic staff; professional development for support staff; employee relations; interpreting and implementing human resource policies, procedures, and practices; serving as a liaison with Central Human Resources and working with Academic Human Resources as needed. This position also includes supervising and supporting College's alumni relations, including supervision of the alumni coordinator and supporting the alumni board; and performing other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of the College of Education and Michigan State University.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Human Resources, Communications, Management, Business, or a related field; five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in human resources related administration; experience with organizational change processes; experience working in a team-based setting; experience in team leadership; experience in managing workplace conflict; experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, project management and e-mail software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A Master's Degree in Human Resources, Communications, Management, Business, or a related field; knowledge and experience in human resources functions to include: staffing, recruitment and selection, orientation and on-boarding, professional development, performance management, and employee relations in an academic and unionized setting; knowledge of and experience in developing a culture of inclusion; knowledge of and experience administering policies and procedures related to human resources in an educational environment; excellent verbal and written communication skills; a self-motivator with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and discretion especially when handling confidential and sensitive data; interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, tactfulness, and respect toward others; strong organizational skills; previous work in alumni relations; ability to multi-task and prioritize work accordingly to meet critical deadlines while staying on task with other assigned duties and responsibilities.
