Assistant Professor

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

 

The Department of Education and Human Development at the State University of New York College at Brockport is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of TESOL position in our Advanced Certificate and MSEd Programs. Candidates with PK-12 credentials are welcome to apply.

 

Brief Description of Responsibilities

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in TESOL
  2. Engage in scholarship
  3. Participate in service activities, serve on department/campus-wide committees
  4. Work collaboratively with department faculty in dual certification programs
  5. Supervise candidates in field experience and student teaching placements
  6. Collaborate with public school personnel
  7. Use technology in teaching, including online instruction
  8. Participate in program implementation and support program assessment for CAEP/TESOL International Association accreditation
  9. Advise teacher candidates
  10. Collaborate with public school personnel
  11. Demonstrate continuous professional development
  12. Work with diverse students to prepare culturally competent teachers

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Terminal degree or ABD in TESOL or an appropriate field from an accredited US Dept of Education or internationally recognized institution (ABD candidates must earn their doctorate within 6 months of appointment)
  2. Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the PK-12 level in TESOL or appropriate field
  3. Evidence of successful scholarship
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with socially, culturally, and linguistically diverse populations to prepare culturally competent teachers.
  5. Demonstrated ability to use technology to support teaching and learning

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate TESOL education courses
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate bilingual and/or world languages education courses
  3. Experience in teaching or supporting literacy programs
  4. Experience in field-based teacher education
  5. Evidence of collaborative teaching and planning
  6. Experience in teaching online
  7. Experience in urban education
  8. Evidence of successful scholarship beyond the dissertation
  9. Experience in seeking external funding
  10. Background in additional areas of expertise that support graduate and undergraduate programs of the department
  11. Demonstrated familiarity with CAEP/TESOL International Association standards
  12. Successful experience working in an inclusive setting
