Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the pool following established procedures.
  • Arrive on time, dressed in appropriate attire.
  • Check the pool and deck for any potential hazards. Be aware of safety concerns.
  • Actively scan the pool at all times while in the lifeguard stand.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to drowning emergencies.
  • Enforce all pool rules and regulations.
  • Document with detail any injuries or incidents.
  • Take chemical readings of the indoor pool.
  • Take pool participation counts hourly.
  • Knowledge of facility layout and ability to give directions to patrons.
  • Communicate with other Lifeguards in order to create a cohesive and collaborative team.
  • Communicate any questions, concerns, or patron issues to the Aquatics & Safety Manager as necessary.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and skill inservices.
  • Work weekends and special event shifts on a rotating basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR for the Professional Rescuers certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately perform in-water and land rescue techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively work with a diverse population.
  • Must have a positive attitude, flexibility, be dependable, and commitment to teamwork.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with participants, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • A thorough understanding of the importance of the “Little Bob Way.”

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience as a lifeguard.
