The Department of Race and Resistance Studies (RRS) at San Francisco State University invites applications for part-time lecturer positions (non-tenure track) in Race and Resistance Studies for the Fall 2022 term. Candidates already holding a Ph.D. degree are preferred, but applicants with an appropriate MA degree or equivalency will also be considered.
The Department of Race and Resistance Studies at San Francisco State University traces its heritage to the historic Third World Liberation Front who contributed to the establishment of the nation’s first College of Ethnic Studies. Formalized as a department in 2017, the mission of RRS is to prepare students to think critically, nurture a social consciousness, actively engage with and respond to community needs, develop leadership skills, all while deepening a foundation of knowledge related to the multiple histories and cultures of communities of color within the United States. To do so, RRS utilizes an approach that is comparative/relational, interdisciplinary, intersectional, and centered in a praxis of resistance.
A defining commitment is to the study of race-related process underlying many social problems and the forms of resistance and struggle aimed at social justice. Our program explores these processes through a comparative and relational approach—examining how communities of color and indigenous people face and resist social inequalities. We utilize a comparative framework, comparing and contrasting the distinct experiences of different racialized communities. At the same time, recognizing that communities do not exist in isolation from one another and that race itself is a mutually constitutive process, we attend to intersection, interaction, and the complexities of identity, community formation, and social struggle. This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, assignments on an as-needed basis, beginning Fall 2022. We will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill assignments as the need arises. Part-time faculty applications are accepted year-round.
