Job Summary

The Coordinators (one full-time, one part-time) will provide direct services to community residents, including providing general advising on financial aid, admissions procedures, and programs at both colleges, conducting intake, testing, and placement of incoming adult education students, and supporting students throughout the duration of their enrollment in the program. The Coordinators will maintain separate student files and enter data for the two colleges and will facilitate the overall registration process. The Coordinators will support faculty and handle facility issues, such as maintaining the copy machine and printers, preparing supply orders, and organizing the book room.

*** This position is for 1.5 years and currently, cannot be guaranteed beyond June 2020. ***

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

At least three years of experience working with adult education students, unemployed clients, and/or at-risk youth, with at least one year of experience working with non-native English speakers.
Strong interpersonal skills to be applied to a variety of individuals with different education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Master’s degree in TESOL, Adult Education, Linguistics, or related field.
2. Bilingual Spanish/English speaking ability.
3. Experience working with the Illinois Community College Board’s (ICCB’s) DAISi system.
4. A working knowledge of ICCB Adult Education and Family Literacy policies and procedures.
5. Experience working with admissions in a community college environment.


Essential Duties

  1. Complete incoming paperwork, conduct oral and standardized assessments, and place students into established classes.
  2. Provide general student advising related to programs and services offered by Harper College and Elgin Community College.
  3. Assist potential students with the process of applying for financial aid (FAFSA).
  4. Enter student data into DAISi, facilitate the registration process, and maintain student files.
  5. Provide general support to students, faculty, and the facility. 
  6. Answer phones and direct incoming residents to the internal workNet, as applicable.

Other Duties

  1. A combination of day and evening hours will be required, Monday through Friday.  May be required to work some evening and weekend hours. 
  2. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
