Job Summary:

Perform grounds and parking lot maintenance, landscaping and snow removal.  Apply pesticides and chemicals to lawn, trees, plants, and shrubs to ensure proper health and growth

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Must have and maintain a current State of Illinois Department of Agriculture Chemical Applicator’s License.
  3. Must have a valid Illinois Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake endorsement.
  4. Landscaping experience:  ability to design, lay-out, and construct landscaped areas.
  5. A working knowledge of routine vehicle and grounds equipment preventive maintenance.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Certified Arborist.

Essential Duties:

  1. Operate and maintain all grounds equipment used in the Grounds Department for lawn care and landscaping.
  2. Perform parking lot and sidewalk maintenance to ensure that conditions of the campus remain accessible by the public.  
  3. Coordinate and apply pesticides, chemicals, and fertilizer when needed to all grounds and plants to ensure proper health and growth.
  4. Maintain all records pertaining to the purchase, storage, and application of chemicals used for grounds care and maintenance, as required by state or federal laws and regulations.
  5. Coordinate with the Superintendent of Grounds in the selections and purchase of chemicals, fertilizer, seeds, trees, flowers, and some equipment required for proper grounds maintenance.

Other Duties:

  1. Assist in furniture/office equipment moves and storage and help with pickup and delivery of donations to the college.
  2. Put up/change informational, directional and parking type signs around the campus.
  3. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
  4. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
