Job Summary:

The part time switchboard operator’s purpose is to answer and direct all calls to the appropriate areas.

Assist with emergency situations through interaction with the ECC Police department, Elgin Police Department and/or paramedics.
Maintain, inventory, and secure lost and found items. Ensure that items are returned to rightful owner. Prepare and arrange for disposal of items following the switchboard lost and found procedures. Notify and assist ECC police with suspicious items.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
2. Minimum 2 years customer service experience

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Essential Duties:

1. Operate telecommunication equipment and route calls to the proper extensions.
2. Maintain contact with the ECC Police department and Operations and Maintenance department using a two-way radio.
3. Update and maintain computerized trouble logs, police logs, and telephone logs on a daily basis.
4. Assist with emergency situations through interaction with the ECC Police department and/or paramedics.
5. Monitor weather radio and fire alarm panel and report any problems to the necessary personnel.

Other Duties:

1. Assist visitors by directing them to the proper person or department.
2. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
3. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
