As a Mechanical Engineer within the Product Engineering Department you will become the Mercedes HPP Specialist for key components / systems on Power Unit, and we will be therefore wholly responsible for the associated engineering tasks from initial idea trough to the last race of the championship, including problem solving and failure analysis.

If you're successful in this role, you'll…

  • Be the Mercedes HPP specialist for key components / systems on the Power Unit
  • Deliver engineering excellence from concept, through prove-out, to race introduction, working closely with other departments to ensure right first time, every time
  • Convert your creative, innovative ideas into hardware that will make a difference at the race track, within weeks of being conceived
  • Create and validate novel engineering design solutions, supported by right first time principles and analysis, that meet demanding performance and cost targets
  • Create robust and versatile models to demonstrate concepts, in both solids and surfaces, with engineering drawings to complement design release
  • Technically develop Power Unit components and systems
  • Solve complex problems and analyse failures
  • Write test requests, review results, and write technical reports
  • Build strong inter-departmental working relationships - teamwork is critical to our success
  • Champion best practices & procedures
  • Liaise with internal and external suppliers as an integral part of a successful engineering journey

Therefore we need you to…

Be skilled at…

  • Engineering solutions considering material selection, manufacturability, heat treatment & other process requirements, surface finish requirements, geometrical tolerancing & control over critical features
  • Thriving under pressure and relishing a challenge
  • Innovating, and delivering, solutions to difficult problems
  • Be experience in 3D CAD design software (preferably CATIA), and key simulation/analysis packages

Have experience of…

  • 3D CAD design software (preferably CATIA), and key simulation/analysis packages
  • Designing highly loaded mechanical components & system
  • Operating in an engineering led, challenging, mechanical engineering position

Demonstrate knowledge of…

  • Internal combustion engines, their systems & energy recovery systems (across a broad spectrum)

Hold these qualifications…

  • 2:1 degree (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline
