The Assistant Dean for Resource Management and Administration (AD-RMA) serves as a key resource to the Dean of University Libraries, collaborates with library leadership on program and service objectives, and works with the university’s central administrative units on behalf of the Library. The AD-RMA provides leadership and has direct responsibility for a wide variety of administrative and management functions including: budgeting, finance and planning; library service assessment and analytics; capital planning; accreditation reviews; policy/procedure development and management; monitoring the progress of plans and initiatives, and general oversight of the Library Service Center (library collections storage and delivery service). The AD-RMA is a dean’s level administrative resource and partner to the Library HR manager on daily HR operations and works in a three-person team model with the dean and the HR manager on matters of HR strategy, policy, employee relations, and organizational development/training. S/he works closely with the dean and library leaders on medium- and long-range capital planning. The position also provides support for other special projects and priorities.
The AD-RMA interacts mainly with the following university offices in executing the business of the Library: Under the Vice Provost of Academic Resource Management are Academic Decision Support, Assessment and Evaluation, Finance, Institutional Research; under the Vice President for Business and Financial Management/CFO are Office of the Controller, central Budget Office, Internal Audit, Capital Assets; and under the Vice President for Human Resources are the central HR offices such as Professional Development.
The AD-RMA serves as the Library Administration’s liaison to Library Council and interacts with the Library Faculty Association and the Library Staff Association. S/he assists the dean by developing agendas for various committee meetings such as the University Library Committee, Dean’s Faculty Advisory Committee, Student Advisory Committee, and the internal Deans and Directors Council and Deans group meetings.
- Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in a pertinent field with extensive experience in higher education administration and management or a related not-for-profit or a complex business organization.
- Experience with two of the four core job areas: 1) financial planning and budget management, analysis, and reporting; 2) assessment and evaluation of programs and services, 3) capital planning and management; 4) human resources management. Experience with policy and procedure development and hiring or training and supervising professional staff.
- Highly developed skills in communication to address sensitive, complex, and broad ranging issues in a university setting. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment and work in a consultative, collaborative manner with university administrative leaders and personnel.
- Ability to conduct participatory meetings, gain acceptance of decisions, and advise and collaborate with others. Ability to apply policy to ensure favorable outcomes. Skill in developing recommendations for consideration by the dean.
- Ability to work independently, accepting challenging circumstances and taking initiative to solve problems where solutions are not always readily apparent. Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and effectively; work well under pressure.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and discretion in confidential matters and when making decisions in urgent situations, sometimes without the benefit of consultation.
$110,000 dependent on qualifications and experience
