A postdoctoral position is available in the Uyeda lab at Virginia Tech to work on novel phylogenetic
comparative methods in association with a newly funded NSF CAREER grant entitled Integrating causal evolutionary processes into phylogenetic comparative biology. The successful candidate will assist the PI to develop and/or apply phylogenetic comparative methods to a variety of empirical systems (mammalian dental evolution, fish biomechanics and causal modeling) with the goal of connecting analysis of macroevolutionary patterns with a process-based understanding of evolution. Candidates will also develop their own research projects and interests. Experience with morphological evolution, phylogenetics, comparative methods, causal inference, computational biology, Bayesian modeling, biomechanics and quantitative genetics theory are possible areas of strength, among others. However, broad thinking, creativity and the ability to ask good questions are more highly-valued more than specific experience. Applications will be considered starting on July 3, 2020 and will be considered until the position is filled. Start date is flexible, with an option of starting with remote work. Initial appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal.
The Uyeda lab strongly values building a diverse and inclusive workspace, and efforts to place the
priority on the well-being and success of lab members. Please contact me for any questions and informal inquiries, at email@example.com.
PhD in relevant field (evolution, organismal biology, statistics, computational biology, etc.)
