Job Description

The Assistant Director, Broadcasting and Engineering Operations will be the Engineer-in-charge for multiple broadcast control room facilities and athletic venue fiber and cable infrastructure used for ACC Network and HokieVision productions. Point of contact between engineering department and ESPN. Provide broadcast engineering input and technical support of live events for ACC Network broadcast productions and in-house Big Screens/LED productions. Will maintain equipment inventory, including computer equipment, software and hardware throughout the video production facilities and venues. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on audio/visual equipment located in athletics offices, athletic venues and broadcast control rooms. Assist with outside remote broadcast partners for Athletics venues. Assist with set-up, operation and strike of remote and studio broadcast productions. Manage student-engineering program including recruitment, training, scheduling, and any other duties that may be involved. Scheduling of all engineers and engineering positions as it relates to broadcasts. Execute related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree and/or bachelor’s degree with related experience in broadcast maintenance engineering or similar field.
Knowledge of ESPN transmission requirements and workflows.
Working knowledge and experience with Unity Server and Unity Connect.
Experience as an EIC for ACC or SEC Network linear productions.
Minimum of Audinate - Dante Level II certification.
Working knowledge of fiber paths and transmission workflows.
Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed: including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays
Experience with video switchers, audio mixers, graphics platforms, LED displays and components, video instant replay systems, broadcast cameras, fiber, coax, and audio cable termination.
Exhibit strong work ethic, ability to work in a team setting, and have a desire to work in collegiate athletics.
Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of technical facilities, broadcast A/V and IT production equipment and systems, including experience and exposure to file-based video recorders, production switchers, routing systems, intercoms, RF, cameras, audio mixers, transmission and encoding equipment as well as computer networks and subsystems including Danté, MADI, and AES67 industry trends.
Experience with remote camera control.
Ability to rapidly diagnose video systems; provide alternative solutions if needed to maintain deadlines.
Knowledge of LED and videoboard maintenance and best practices.
Knowledge of DVSport Official Review replay system.
Experience in terminating single mode fiber.
Knowledge of technology and industry trends.
