Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Student Conduct and the Director of Residential Well-being, the Associate Director for Community Standards and Well-being serves as a collaborative and creative member of Virginia Tech’s transformational new residential model, which places student success and well-being at the heart of the residential experience. Through teamwork, collaboration, and innovation, the Associate Director for Community Standards and Well-being champions a caring, educational, holistic, and data-informed approach to addressing behavioral and community concerns that arise from the residential environment. The individual also serves as a departmental liaison for Student Conduct, serves on relevant university committees and fosters collaborative relationships with campus and community partners to pursue and promote organizational practices, policies, training, and partnerships for behavioral interventions that combine education, accountability, and support.
The Associate Director works in concert with the Directors of Student Conduct and Residential Well-being, and partners closely with Housing Services, Student Affairs Facilities, Living Learning Programs, the Corps of Cadets, and Fraternity and Sorority Life to ensure an intentional and tailored approach to behavioral intervention for residential student misconduct. The Associate Director also works closely with the Assistant Dean of Students, who provides oversight for five coordinators of case management and administration, as well as other colleagues on the Student Conduct and Residential Well-being team, who regularly provide resources and engagement opportunities for residential students.
The Associate Director is responsible for providing leadership and supervision for daily oversight, adjudication, follow-up and referral of behavioral violations that occur in residential facilities to ensure that resolution processes, outcomes, and sanctions are mission-driven, equitable, and compliant with laws and policies. As part of this responsibility, the Associate Director will regularly use technology solutions, including the Maxient database system, to ensure processes and information are accurate and efficient. The Associate Director also serves as a hearing officer for students and student organizations referred to Student Conduct for policy violations as needed.
