Job Description

Responsible for the management related to the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of Organic Synthesis and Techniques, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic, Instrumental Analysis, Polymer capstone, and Med-Chem Laboratories. These laboratories serve multiple hundreds of students weekly. Duties include making, supervising the preparation of and distribution of reagent solutions of specific compositions used for the various laboratory experiments; revision and development of laboratory procedures; preparing and managing the teaching budgets for the Organic Synthesis and Techniques, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic, Instrumental Analysis, Polymer capstone, and Med-Chem laboratories; Managing Laboratory facilities and equipment used in these courses; managing the associated stock for these laboratories (to include the budgetary responsibilities, supervision of work-study students, development of a digital inventory system; and ensuring that laboratory safety practices and procedures are followed.

Required Qualifications

Experience in a teaching laboratory setting demonstrating knowledge of and skill in the operation, maintenance, and interpretation for a wide variety of typical teaching laboratory instrumentation; ability to instruct others in the use and interpretation of data from this equipment; skill in basic "wet chemistry" techniques; knowledge of advanced chemical methodology; ability to plan, organize, prioritize and direct the work of laboratory work study students; familiarity with preparing and managing teaching laboratory budgets; and demonstrated ability to interact with students, assistants, TAs, and faculty effectively and in a professional manner. Bachelor's degree and/or relevant training and experience in chemistry or related field managing an undergraduate teaching laboratory that equates to an advanced degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in chemistry or related field and experience managing an undergraduate teaching laboratory are preferred qualifications.
