Provide all eDiscovery needs requested by University Legal Counsel. Participate in planning and implementation of the eDiscovery team operations, managing process improvement, and standardization. Anticipate, understand, and proactively address questions related to fulfilling requests across various data sources in support of litigation. Translate requests for data into detailed parameters to receive data necessary. Performs searches on supplied data to find relevant information. Securely stores data in accordance with Legal Counsel needs. Serves as liaison between University Legal Counsel and Division of IT staff. Keep abreast of current best practices, emerging technologies, and solutions pertaining to eDiscovery.
Learn the Virginia Tech data storage solutions, communication platforms, and IT processes for accurate data collections. Ensure data is preserved for litigation holds, subpoenas, or other legal matters. Keep complete documentation on collections, processes, and communications. In tandem with University Legal Counsel, work with external counsel and law authorities to
supply requested data.
Assist units supported by Business and Management Systems: President, Executive Vice President and Provost, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer senior management areas with data storage needs. Assist with data migrations, permissions
monitoring and setting, and ensuring data is securely stored.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or IT related field
• Sound understanding of the e-Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) and life-cycle
• Proficiency in interpersonal and written communications
• Ability to communicate technical concepts at a level appropriate to the intended audience
• Experience with data collection software necessary for forensically sound collections
• Experience and understanding of Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems
• Experience managing storage devices for large volumes of data
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to collect, process, review, and analyze electronically stored information (ESI)
• Exceptional documentation ability to track and control data collection and search activity
• Ability to interpret subpoenas and requests into requirements for data gathering
• Knowledge of mobile computing devices such as iPhone and Android
• Experience working with confidential information
• Proactively contribute to the procedures, standards, and process development of eDiscovery functions
• Provide technical guidance to legal counsel pertaining to data gathering, search terms, and related eDiscovery functions
• Experience with SharePoint Online
• Experience with writing and running scripts for data analysis and file management
• Non-vendor specific eDiscovery certifications
• Experience with Kali Linux, Cellebrite solutions, Autopsy, Logikcull
• Experience with discovery processes involving Microsoft 365 and/or cloud-based platforms
• Experience in Microsoft SharePoint
Salary Range of $70,000 - $80,000
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
