The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech seeks to fill a senior faculty position in power electronics, specifically in the area of high-frequency high-density power conversion. This faculty member is expected to serve as the Power Management Thrust Leader at the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES).
CPES is one of the world’s most prominent and influential academic research centers with emphasis on education, research, industry collaboration and technology transfer. As an integral part of the CPES’s Industry Consortium Program, the Power Management Consortium (PMC) is the largest research thrust area, strongly supported by companies in diverse industries, including data centers, EV, semiconductor, computer, telecommunication, et al.
As the Power Management Thrust Leader, this faculty is expected to
(1) Set strategic research directions and drive programs that define technology frontiers, in areas such as low-voltage high-current conversion techniques, high-frequency and high-density power conversion, distributed power systems, high-frequency magnetics, integrated components and circuits techniques, modeling & control of converters, and applications of wide-bandgap and ultra-wide-bandgap power semiconductor devices.
(2) Lead collaborative PMC research and education among CPES faculty. Drive collaborative research synergies with other CPES research thrust areas.
(3) Strengthen and grow CPES research, industry partnership and technology transfer programs
(4) Serve as an Executive Board member in CPES to drive its operational excellence
With the explosive growth of AI/ML, data centers, and the surged demand of electric power around the world, this faculty is expected to play a crucial role to capitalize the unprecedented opportunities for broad Grid-to-Chip technologies, to pave the road and create the future technologies for industry, and to be a leading figure in CPES for further growth of research eminence, Industry collaboration and technology transfer programs.
This faculty is also expected to lead a specialized graduate curriculum, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in department, college, and university service and outreach activities, contributing vigorously towards the learning, discovery, and engagement missions of Virginia Tech.
